Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Comstock Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, with Hosp Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Comstock Elementary School has a regular student population of 667 with a 15.6 students/teacher ratio while Hosp Elementary School has 673 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.8 students/teacher ratio.
Comstock Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and 79 in closing performance gaps. It scored 88 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Hosp Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 92 in student achievement, 94 in school progress, 94 in closing performance gaps and 94 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only one distinction designation or award for performance. For Comstock Elementary School this is in Science while Hosp Elementary School secured one for with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Comstock Elementary School. They make up for 39.13% of student population, followed by Asians (33.28%), African Americans (10.94%), Hispanics (9.15%), Two or More Races (6.90%) and Native Americans (0.60%).
The student population at Hosp Elementary School is also predominantly by Asians at 49.78%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (26.00%), African Americans (9.06%), Hispanics (8.92%), Two or More Races (5.94%) and Native Americans (0.30%).
Based on household incomes, the Comstock Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 8.70% compared to 8.77% at Hosp Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Comstock Elementary School has 63 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 9.45% of student population. Hosp Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 110 or about 16.34% of student population.
In addition, Comstock Elementary School has 9.00% bilingual students, 5.55% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.49% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Hosp Elementary School with 16.05% bilingual students, 6.69% gifted and talented students and 6.98% students in the special education program.

The 40 teachers at Hosp Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 6.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.5 years.
