Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Colony Meadows Elementary School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with Lexington Creek Elementary School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Colony Meadows Elementary School has a regular student population of 611 with a 14.7 students/teacher ratio while Lexington Creek Elementary School has 490 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.3 students/teacher ratio.
Colony Meadows Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Colony Meadows Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Except for 25% closing performance gaps, Lexington Creek Elementary School earned one out of seven distinctions.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Colony Meadows Elementary School. They make up for 48.12% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (27.99%), Hispanics (13.26%), Two or More Races (6.06%), African Americans (4.09%) and Native Americans (0.33%).
The student population at Lexington Creek Elementary School is also predominantly by African Americans at 29.39%, followed by Asians (29.80%), Whites or Caucasians (20.41%), Hispanics (14.29%), Two or More Races (5.92%) and Native Americans (0.20%).
Based on household incomes, the Colony Meadows Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 18.66% compared to 39.59% at Lexington Creek Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Colony Meadows Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 21.60% of its student population compared to 21.63% at Lexington Creek Elementary School.
Colony Meadows Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 20.62%, gifted and talented students, 9.98%, while 8.67% are in the special education program. Lexington Creek Elementary School bilingual students comprise 21.63%, gifted and talented students, 6.12%, and 11.63% are in the special education program.
