Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Canyon Creek Elementary School, which is a part of ROUND ROCK ISD, with Double File Trail Elementary School, which is a part of ROUND ROCK ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Canyon Creek Elementary School has a regular student population of 331 with a 12.8 students/teacher ratio while Double File Trail Elementary School has 519 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.3 students/teacher ratio.
Canyon Creek Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Canyon Creek Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Double File Trail Elementary School’s only distinction designation is in Science.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Canyon Creek Elementary School. They make up for 38.07% of student population, followed by Asians (38.67%), Hispanics (14.20%), Two or More Races (7.55%), African Americans (1.21%) and Native Americans (0.30%).
The student population at Double File Trail Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 39.11%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (33.72%), African Americans (14.45%), Asians (7.13%) and Two or More Races (5.20%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Canyon Creek Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 3.63% compared to 43.16% at Double File Trail Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Canyon Creek Elementary School has 26 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 7.85% of student population. Double File Trail Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 67 or about 12.91% of student population.
Canyon Creek Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 7.85%, gifted and talented students, 19.34%, while 5.74% are in the special education program. Double File Trail Elementary School bilingual students comprise 12.91%, gifted and talented students, 6.36%, and 19.27% are in the special education program.
