When we compared Burleson Center, which is a part of EDGEWOOD ISD, with Memorial High School, which is a part of EDGEWOOD ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Burleson Center’s regular student population is 23 with a student-teacher ratio of 14 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Memorial High School is 1,009 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17 students/teacher ratio.
Memorial High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 69 in student achievement, 78 in school progress and 71 in closing performance gaps. It scored 76 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, the performance indicators not applicable for Burleson Center.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Memorial High School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and Social Studies. Burleson Center has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Burleson Center is Hispanics who make up nearly 100.00% of student population, followed by . There is no African Americans, Asians, Native Americans, Two or More Races and Whites or Caucasians students in the school.
At Memorial High School, Hispanics make up 95.14% of student population, followed by Asians (2.18%), African Americans (1.68%), Whites or Caucasians (0.50%) and Two or More Races (0.20%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Burleson Center’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 13.04% compared to 85.83% at Memorial High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Burleson Center has no English Language Learners or ELLS. Memorial High School has significantly more ELLs at 243 or about 24.08% of student population.
Burleson Center has no gifted and talented and bilingual students, while 95.65% are in the special education program. Memorial High School 11.00% are in the special education program, 0.79% are in the gifted and talented program, and bilingual students comprise 21.80% students.
Burleson Center's one teacher only has been working at the campus for an average of 13 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 18 years. Memorial High School's 59 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 4.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 8.4 years.
Of its teaching staff, Burleson Center no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has one teacher only serving the school for 20-30 years, one teacher only has worked for 11-20 years, school has no teacher serving 6-10 years, no teacher serving the school for 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher. Memorial High School has four teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, eight teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 13 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 20 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 11 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Burleson Center employs one female teacher only and zero male teacher. Of its teaching staff, two teachers are in special education without any assistance.
On the other hand, Memorial High School employs 33 female teachers and 25 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, six special education teachers are being assisted by seven teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs three staff members in the school administration department and eight more working as school support staff.
