Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Bryker Woods Elementary School, which is a part of AUSTIN ISD, with Norman-Sims Elementary School, which is a part of AUSTIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Bryker Woods Elementary School has a regular student population of 349 with a 14.2 students/teacher ratio while Norman-Sims Elementary School has 276 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.3 students/teacher ratio.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Bryker Woods Elementary School and Norman-Sims Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Bryker Woods Elementary School is Whites or Caucasians who make up nearly 66.48% of student population, followed by Hispanics (19.48%), Two or More Races (6.88%), Asians (4.30%) and African Americans (2.87%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Norman-Sims Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 53.26%, followed by African Americans (40.58%), Whites or Caucasians (2.90%), Two or More Races (2.90%) and Asians (0.36%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Bryker Woods Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 9.46% compared to 92.75% at Norman-Sims Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Bryker Woods Elementary School has 12 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 3.44% of student population. Norman-Sims Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 64 or about 23.19% of student population.
In addition, Bryker Woods Elementary School has 3.44% bilingual students, 6.02% are in the gifted and talented program, while 6.88% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Norman-Sims Elementary School with 23.55% bilingual students, 6.88% gifted and talented students and 11.59% students in the special education program.
