Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Brauchle Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, with Cable Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Brauchle Elementary School has a regular student population of 451 with a 12.9 students/teacher ratio while Cable Elementary School has 461 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.1 students/teacher ratio.
Brauchle Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 72 in student achievement, 92 in school progress and 79 in closing performance gaps. It scored 88 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Cable Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 56 in student achievement, 75 in school progress, 71 in closing performance gaps and 74 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only one distinction designation or award for performance. For Brauchle Elementary School this is in with 25% student progress while Cable Elementary School secured one for Science.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Brauchle Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 77.61% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (13.75%), Two or More Races (4.66%), African Americans (3.10%) and Asians (0.89%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Cable Elementary School, Hispanics make up 93.93% of student population, followed by African Americans (2.82%), Whites or Caucasians (1.95%), Asians (0.43%), Two or More Races (0.43%) and Native Americans (0.22%).
Based on household incomes, the Brauchle Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 64.97% compared to 96.53% at Cable Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Brauchle Elementary School has 7 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 1.55% of student population. Cable Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 131 or about 28.42% of student population.
In addition, Brauchle Elementary School has 0.44% bilingual students, 3.77% are in the gifted and talented program, while 19.73% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Cable Elementary School with 28.20% bilingual students, 6.07% gifted and talented students and 9.76% students in the special education program.
