When we compared Brackenridge High School, which is a part of SAN ANTONIO ISD, with Travis Early College High School, which is a part of SAN ANTONIO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Brackenridge High School’s regular student population is 1,498 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.1 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Travis Early College High School is 445 students and a student-teacher ratio of 19.8 students/teacher ratio.
Brackenridge High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 80 in student achievement, 87 in school progress and 72 in closing performance gaps. It scored 83 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Travis Early College High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 97 in student achievement, 96 in school progress, 88 in closing performance gaps and 94 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Brackenridge High School’s only distinction designation is in Social Studies. Travis Early College High School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Brackenridge High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 94.86% of student population, followed by African Americans (2.60%), Whites or Caucasians (2.00%), Two or More Races (0.27%) and Asians (0.20%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Travis Early College High School, Hispanics make up 94.16% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (3.60%), African Americans (1.35%), Two or More Races (0.67%) and Asians (0.22%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Brackenridge High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 88.92% compared to 72.58% at Travis Early College High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Brackenridge High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 20.16% of its student population compared to 8.31% at Travis Early College High School.
In addition, Brackenridge High School has 20.36% bilingual students, 9.48% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.95% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Travis Early College High School with 1.57% bilingual students, 22.92% gifted and talented students and 1.80% students in the special education program.
Brackenridge High School's 99 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 8.5 years. Travis Early College High School's 22 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 10.1 years.
Of its teaching staff, Brackenridge High School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has nine teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 26 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 17 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 25 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 22 beginning teachers. Travis Early College High School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, two teachers have worked for 11-20 years, five teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Brackenridge High School employs 50 female teachers and 48 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 15 special education teachers are being assisted by 13 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 15 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Travis Early College High School employs 15 female teachers and seven male teachers. Of its teaching staff, one teacher is in special education without any assistance. The school also employs two staff members in the school administration department and four more working as school support staff.
