Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Bonnie Brae, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, with David K Sellars Elementary School, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, we noted that the two schools are on opposite ends of the ratings spectrum.
Bonnie Brae has a regular student population of 376 with a 13.2 students/teacher ratio while David K Sellars Elementary School has 406 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.7 students/teacher ratio.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
David K Sellars Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Bonnie Brae has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Bonnie Brae is Hispanics who make up nearly 85.11% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (6.65%), African Americans (3.19%), Two or More Races (2.66%) and Asians (2.39%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At David K Sellars Elementary School, Hispanics make up 68.72% of student population, followed by African Americans (27.83%), Whites or Caucasians (2.22%) and Two or More Races (1.23%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Bonnie Brae’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 88.56% compared to 92.86% at David K Sellars Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Bonnie Brae has 203 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 53.99% of student population. David K Sellars Elementary School has more ELLs at 213 or about 52.46% of student population.
In addition, Bonnie Brae has 50.80% bilingual students, 4.26% are in the gifted and talented program, while 19.41% are in the special education program. This stacks up against David K Sellars Elementary School with 46.80% bilingual students, 7.88% gifted and talented students and 9.36% students in the special education program.
