Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Ben Milam Elementary School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with Bayles Elementary School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Bayles Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Ben Milam Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Ben Milam Elementary School. They make up for 62.41% of student population, followed by African Americans (24.09%), Whites or Caucasians (7.30%), Two or More Races (4.01%) and Asians (2.19%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Bayles Elementary School, Hispanics make up 71.36% of student population, followed by African Americans (25.32%), Whites or Caucasians (1.79%), Native Americans (0.77%), Two or More Races (0.51%) and Asians (0.26%).
Based on household incomes, the Ben Milam Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 84.67% compared to 98.47% at Bayles Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Ben Milam Elementary School has 100 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 36.50% of student population. Bayles Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 233 or about 59.59% of student population.
Ben Milam Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 35.77%, gifted and talented students, 18.25%, while 12.41% are in the special education program. Bayles Elementary School bilingual students comprise 57.80%, gifted and talented students, 10.49%, and 9.46% are in the special education program.
