Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Bay Elementary School, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, with Campbell Elementary School, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Bay Elementary School has a regular student population of 623 with a 16.1 students/teacher ratio while Campbell Elementary School has 690 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.9 students/teacher ratio.
Bay Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 86 in student achievement, 86 in school progress and 88 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Campbell Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 89 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 92 in closing performance gaps and 91 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Bay Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Science and 25% closing performance gaps. Campbell Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Bay Elementary School. They make up for 60.51% of student population, followed by Hispanics (25.04%), African Americans (6.10%), Two or More Races (5.62%), Asians (2.57%) and Native Americans (0.16%).
The student population at Campbell Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 53.91%, followed by Hispanics (25.51%), Asians (8.84%), African Americans (7.54%), Two or More Races (3.91%) and Native Americans (0.14%).
Based on household incomes, Bay Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 43.82% compared to 18.99% at Campbell Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Bay Elementary School has 46 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 7.38% of student population. Campbell Elementary School has slightly more ELLs at 62 or about 8.99% of student population.
In addition, Bay Elementary School has 7.22% bilingual students, 6.58% are in the gifted and talented program, while 15.41% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Campbell Elementary School with 7.97% bilingual students, 11.30% gifted and talented students and 16.52% students in the special education program.
38 teachers employed at Bay Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11 years. The 46 teachers at Campbell Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 6.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.5 years.
Of its teaching staff, Bay Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has eight teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, eight teachers have worked for 11-20 years, ten teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 11 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only. Campbell Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, ten teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 19 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Bay Elementary School there are 37 female teachers and one male teacher only. Of its teaching staff, four special education teachers are being assisted by 16 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and 11 more working as school support staff.
