A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Austin High School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Lasa High School's seven out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Austin High School. They make up for 53.89% of student population, followed by Hispanics (35.48%), Two or More Races (4.71%), African Americans (3.32%), Asians (2.31%) and Native Americans (0.17%).

Based on household incomes, Austin High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 22.19% compared to 11.54% at Lasa High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Austin High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 7.44% of its student population compared to 1.83% at Lasa High School.
In addition, Austin High School has 7.02% bilingual students, 17.23% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.84% are in the special education program.
