Austin High School’s regular student population is 1,557 with a student-teacher ratio of 16.6 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Energy Institute High School is 696 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17 students/teacher ratio.
Austin High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 72 in student achievement, 82 in school progress and 74 in closing performance gaps. It scored 80 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Energy Institute High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 94 in student achievement, 92 in school progress, 100 in closing performance gaps and 96 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Energy Institute High School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Austin High School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Austin High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 90.24% of student population, followed by African Americans (8.67%), Whites or Caucasians (0.64%), Two or More Races (0.19%), Asians (0.06%) and Native Americans (0.06%).
The student population at Energy Institute High School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 43.97%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.57%), African Americans (23.99%), Asians (3.30%), Two or More Races (2.87%) and Native Americans (0.29%).
Based on household incomes, Austin High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 96.40% compared to 59.77% at Energy Institute High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Austin High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 35.84% of its student population compared to 4.31% at Energy Institute High School.
In addition, Austin High School has 34.55% bilingual students, 11.56% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.72% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Energy Institute High School with 3.74% bilingual students, 47.13% gifted and talented students and 6.90% students in the special education program.
Austin High School's 93 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12.6 years. Energy Institute High School's 41 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 3.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 6.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Austin High School has five teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 33 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 24 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including nine beginning teachers. Energy Institute High School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, three teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 12 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers.
Austin High School has five special education teachers assisted by 6 teacher aides or paraprofessionals. Energy Institute High School has zero special education teachers and 2 teacher aides or paraprofessionals.
