Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Arnold Middle School bagged all seven distinction awards in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Aragon Middle School’s two out of seven distinctions are in with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Arnold Middle School. They make up for 43.42% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (23.59%), African Americans (21.71%), Asians (7.38%), Two or More Races (2.64%) and Native Americans (1.18%).
The student population at Aragon Middle School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 42.72%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (27.42%), African Americans (16.49%), Asians (10.06%), Two or More Races (2.75%) and Native Americans (0.31%).
Based on household incomes, Arnold Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 65.48% compared to 42.97% at Aragon Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Arnold Middle School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 12.87% of its student population compared to 9.31% at Aragon Middle School.
