When we compared Arlington Heights High School, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, with Benbrook Middle/High School, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Arlington Heights High School’s regular student population is 1,872 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Benbrook Middle/High School is 1,530 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.8 students/teacher ratio.
Arlington Heights High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 74 in student achievement, 75 in school progress and 63 in closing performance gaps. It scored 71 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Benbrook Middle/High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 86 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 77 in closing performance gaps and 85 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Except for Mathematics, Arlington Heights High School earned one out of seven distinctions. Benbrook Middle/High School's two out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics and Social Studies.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Arlington Heights High School. They make up for 52.67% of student population, followed by African Americans (22.76%), Whites or Caucasians (20.78%), Two or More Races (2.19%), Asians (1.34%) and Native Americans (0.16%).
The student population at Benbrook Middle/High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 49.67%, followed by Hispanics (38.24%), African Americans (7.12%), Two or More Races (3.20%), Asians (1.31%) and Native Americans (0.39%).
Based on household incomes, Arlington Heights High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 71.74% compared to 51.70% at Benbrook Middle/High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Arlington Heights High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 18.64% of its student population compared to 11.05% at Benbrook Middle/High School.
In addition, Arlington Heights High School has 18.00% bilingual students, 16.72% are in the gifted and talented program, while 9.62% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Benbrook Middle/High School with 10.85% bilingual students, 17.39% gifted and talented students and 10.26% students in the special education program.
Arlington Heights High School's 123 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12.5 years. Benbrook Middle/High School's 96 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 11.2 years.
Of its teaching staff, Arlington Heights High School has eight teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 19 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 35 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 26 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 29 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers. Benbrook Middle/High School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has ten teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 33 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 21 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 30 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers.
In both schools, male teachers outnumber the female teachers. Arlington Heights High School employs 51 male teachers and 71 female teachers. Of its teaching staff, nine special education teachers are being assisted by 12 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs four staff members in the school administration department and 20 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Benbrook Middle/High School employs 47 male teachers and 49 female teachers. Of its teaching staff, ten special education teachers are being assisted by seven teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs four staff members in the school administration department and 18 more working as school support staff.
