Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Allen Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, with Rogers Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Allen Elementary School has a regular student population of 808 with a 18.4 students/teacher ratio while Rogers Elementary School has 577 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.9 students/teacher ratio.
Allen Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 93 in student achievement, 94 in school progress and 98 in closing performance gaps. It scored 95 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Rogers Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 74 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 74 in closing performance gaps and 84 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Allen Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Rogers Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Allen Elementary School. They make up for 37.62% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (31.56%), Hispanics (13.24%), African Americans (9.53%), Two or More Races (7.55%) and Native Americans (0.50%).
The student population at Rogers Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 46.97%, followed by Hispanics (21.84%), African Americans (14.38%), Asians (9.01%), Two or More Races (7.11%) and Native Americans (0.69%).
Based on household incomes, the Allen Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 13.37% compared to 27.56% at Rogers Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Allen Elementary School has a slightly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 7.92% of its student population compared to 8.84% at Rogers Elementary School.
Allen Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 7.80%, gifted and talented students, 5.07%, while 9.78% are in the special education program. Rogers Elementary School bilingual students comprise 8.67%, gifted and talented students, 2.77%, and 14.90% are in the special education program.
43 teachers employed at Allen Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.8 years. The 41 teachers at Rogers Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 6.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.8 years.
Of its teaching staff, Allen Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, ten teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 14 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers. Rogers Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, six teachers have worked for 11-20 years, seven teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 22 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Allen Elementary School there are 42 female teachers and one male teacher only.
