Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Alexander Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, with Boone Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Alexander Elementary School has a regular student population of 648 with a 12.8 students/teacher ratio while Boone Elementary School has 639 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.1 students/teacher ratio.
Alexander Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 65 in student achievement, 92 in school progress and 75 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Boone Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 62 in student achievement, 80 in school progress, 75 in closing performance gaps and 79 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Alexander Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and with 25% student progress. Boone Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Alexander Elementary School. They make up for 58.80% of student population, followed by African Americans (25.62%), Asians (13.12%), Whites or Caucasians (2.16%) and Two or More Races (0.15%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Boone Elementary School, Hispanics make up 68.70% of student population, followed by African Americans (24.26%), Asians (4.07%), Whites or Caucasians (2.50%), Native Americans (0.31%) and Two or More Races (0.16%).
Based on household incomes, the Alexander Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 88.12% compared to 89.67% at Boone Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Alexander Elementary School has 420 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 64.81% of student population. Boone Elementary School has more ELLs at 425 or about 66.51% of student population.
In addition, Alexander Elementary School has 65.28% bilingual students, 2.31% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.57% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Boone Elementary School with 66.35% bilingual students, 4.23% gifted and talented students and 10.49% students in the special education program.
50 teachers employed at Alexander Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 9.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.6 years. The 57 teachers at Boone Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 9.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Alexander Elementary School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 20 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while ten teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers. Boone Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has nine teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 19 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Alexander Elementary School there are 45 female teachers and five male teachers. Of its teaching staff, three special education teachers are being assisted by 18 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and five more working as school support staff.
