Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. When we compared Stripling Middle School, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, with Monnig Middle School, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.
Stripling Middle School’s regular student population is 566 with a 15.3 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Monnig Middle School is 586 students and a 14.4 students/teacher ratio.
Stripling Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 76 in student achievement, 82 in school progress and 74 in closing performance gaps. It scored 80 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Monnig Middle School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 54 in student achievement, 57 in school progress, 56 in closing performance gaps and 57 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Stripling Middle School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Social Studies and post-secondary. Monnig Middle School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Stripling Middle School. They make up for 58.13% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.44%), African Americans (11.66%), Two or More Races (3.36%), Asians (0.71%) and Native Americans (0.71%).
The student population at Monnig Middle School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 38.91%, followed by African Americans (36.35%), Whites or Caucasians (17.92%), Two or More Races (5.46%), Asians (1.19%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
Based on household incomes, the Stripling Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 67.49% compared to 82.42% at Monnig Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, 21.91% of students at Stripling Middle School are English Language Learners (ELL). On the other hand, Monnig Middle School’s ELL comprise 21.16% of the school’s student population.
Stripling Middle School’s bilingual students comprise 20.14%, gifted and talented students, 27.92%, while 10.25% are in the special education program. Monnig Middle School bilingual students comprise 19.45%, gifted and talented students, 13.14%, and 14.68% are in the special education program.
