North Dallas High School’s regular student population is 1,202 with a student-teacher ratio of 16 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Skyline High School is 4,264 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.8 students/teacher ratio.
North Dallas High School was accorded a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 73 in student achievement, 83 in school progress and 68 in closing performance gaps. It scored 79 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Skyline High School also earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 70 in student achievement, 75 in school progress, 68 in closing performance gaps and 72 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. North Dallas High School's four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Skyline High School’s only distinction designation is in Social Studies.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in North Dallas High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 69.80% of student population, followed by African Americans (24.04%), Whites or Caucasians (3.00%), Asians (1.66%), Two or More Races (0.92%) and Native Americans (0.42%).
At Skyline High School, Hispanics make up 76.08% of student population, followed by African Americans (21.25%), Whites or Caucasians (1.38%), Two or More Races (0.56%), Asians (0.30%) and Native Americans (0.30%).
Based on household incomes, North Dallas High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 87.02% compared to 73.26% at Skyline High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, North Dallas High School has 524 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 43.59% of student population. Skyline High School has significantly more ELLs at 1822 or about 42.73% of student population.
In addition, North Dallas High School has 39.93% bilingual students, 15.31% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.90% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Skyline High School with 39.54% bilingual students, 17.42% gifted and talented students and 7.95% students in the special education program.
North Dallas High School's 75 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 8.3 years. Skyline High School's 253 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 11.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, North Dallas High School has four teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 16 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 27 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 12 beginning teachers. Skyline High School has 16 teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 35 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 61 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 43 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 82 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 16 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. North Dallas High School employs 48 female teachers and 26 male teachers.
