A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for May Elementary School and Murnin Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at May Elementary School. They make up for 61.35% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (17.15%), African Americans (8.94%), Asians (7.73%), Two or More Races (4.35%) and Native Americans (0.48%).
At Murnin Elementary School, Hispanics make up 77.93% of student population, followed by African Americans (8.72%), Whites or Caucasians (8.72%), Two or More Races (3.95%), Asians (0.41%) and Native Americans (0.27%).
Based on household incomes, the May Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 35.99% compared to 63.22% at Murnin Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, May Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 25.12% of its student population compared to 3.68% at Murnin Elementary School.
May Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 34.78%, gifted and talented students, 3.38%, while 13.77% are in the special education program. Murnin Elementary School bilingual students comprise 0.41%, gifted and talented students, 2.86%, and 15.53% are in the special education program.

The 52 teachers at Murnin Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 8.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.6 years.
