When we compared May Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, with Allen Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
May Elementary School has a regular student population of 414 with a 13 students/teacher ratio while Allen Elementary School has 464 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12 students/teacher ratio.
May Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Allen Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. May Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at May Elementary School. They make up for 61.35% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (17.15%), African Americans (8.94%), Asians (7.73%), Two or More Races (4.35%) and Native Americans (0.48%).
At Allen Elementary School, Hispanics make up 95.47% of student population, followed by African Americans (1.94%), Whites or Caucasians (1.94%) and Two or More Races (0.65%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the May Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 35.99% compared to 91.16% at Allen Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, May Elementary School has 104 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 25.12% of student population. Allen Elementary School has slightly more ELLs at 120 or about 25.86% of student population.
In addition, May Elementary School has 34.78% bilingual students, 3.38% are in the gifted and talented program, while 13.77% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Allen Elementary School with 27.16% bilingual students, 3.88% gifted and talented students and 15.95% students in the special education program.

The 38 teachers at Allen Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 10 years with individual teaching experience averaging 14 years.
