Clear Creek cleanup includes Ike-moved items

LEAGUE CITY — Cleanup of Clear Creek in the League City area will include removal of the remains of a bar pushed miles by 2008's Hurricane Ike.

Rex Ward for a decade has helped run the Clear Creek Environmental Foundation's annual cleanup. Ward said that this year cleanup includes the pink walls of Marybelle's bar.

Ward says the Seabrook institution once near the Texas 146 bridge was moved off its pilings during Ike's September 2008 storm surge. The remains showed up 6 miles into Clear Lake.

Ward says the debris included “a bathroom wall with the condom machine still attached to it.”

Volunteers have worked for five weeks clearing estuaries, waterways and wetlands around Seabrook and Kemah. The effort wraps up Saturday at the League City boat ramp.
