Create groupings with your accessories - Once you have de-cluttered and cleaned, what do you do with what is left on the shelves and countertops?  You need to create groupings.  The same rule applies for shelves and counters as it does with the floor plan of your furniture.
The goal is not to fill up the space but rather to create groupings.  Do not spread out the knick knacks so that the shelf is filled in with items.  Rather, you should pull the items together to create a group or a story on each shelf or counter.  This allows your eye to go to the group rather than run across the shelf.  It makes the space look cleaner and also makes the space look larger because you can actually see shelf space or counter space.
The photo shows the candle and lamp together.  The papers on the table are merely the house sheets for the listing.
