New Year resolutions

Well, here we are again.

I always feel at the start of a new year that people take a metaphorical deep breath as they gird their loins for the challenges ahead. It seems to always take a couple of weeks after the New Year starts for resolutions to get broken and for things to get back to normal; the two, I suspect, might be related. I decided I would resolve not to moan about things quite as much ... So here goes!

Florida. Wow, that's a State in an amazingly good state of repair. I wasn't prepared for quite how beautifully maintained it all was. The roads were smooth and pot-holeless, road markings were thick and clear, junctions were well ordered and thought out, most streets had lights, it was clean and clear of rubbish (trash) and all the kerbsides were manicured. It was all a very pleasant shock and a delight.

In contrast, Houston really needs to pull it's proverbial socks up ... Just the drive from Hobby airport alone is a disgraceful way to introduce any new or returning old arrivals to the delights of our wonderful city; I felt I needed my neck, back and teeth examined for breakages after the ride home.

So, as the sun sets at the start of a New Year (Naples beach, Florida), I guess time will tell how long I can keep to my resolution ..!
