Car number plates

I started to wonder if there were any rules re car number plates here. I discover, through extensive research (!), not many ...
- The size and colouring of the lettering is variable - though the font at least is the same albeit not very bold.
- Half the plate is often taken up with the State name, a college logo, the dealer name and whoever the driver supports or what he/she does in their spare time. Useful reading sometimes when in one of those ubiquitous traffic queues.
- The plates don't have to be of reflective material - but some are.
- You are meant to have plates on both the front and rear (a relatively recent law change) but many still have them only on the rear - means you would have to get run over (and survive) to be able to identify the culprit, no good if you manage to dodge him from in front.
- The front and rear plates can be any colour - or the same colour. So you can't instantly know which way a car is facing - and if you don't think that's useful to know on occasion, you need to stop driving ...

And then we come on to content. It seems anything goes. You can go online (https://www.myplates.com) and actually just make up your own plate and availability and basic parameters aside (though some of the ones I've seen don't follow any rules), you can get pretty much whatever you want, as long as you are prepared to pay for it. Here's a sample of a few plates I snapped around town.
Suggestions (preferably clean) for what I should get for my car? BOND 007 is sadly not available, I checked ...
