Montrose Neighborhood Information

Montrose is located in Houston’s Inner Loop, just a few blocks away from Downtown Houston. Its strategic location in Inner Loop makes it accessible to other neighboring communities such as Midtown, Upper Kirby, Museum District, River Oaks, Rice Military, and Memorial Park.

The history of Montrose goes as early as 1911, when real estate developers such as J.W. Link saw the potential of the area as an extension to the elegant community of River Oaks. In the 60’s however, Montrose became a center of the city’s counterculture movement as artists, musicians, and activists called the area their home and made Montrose as it is today.

Because of the area’s contiguity to different types of communities, Montrose has a wide variety of home styles inherited from its neighbors. For instance, most mansion-style homes in the area are primarily attributed to its adjacency to River Oaks, one of the most expensive home sites in Houston. Meanwhile, its proximity to Midtown and other bustling neighborhoods in the area paved way for different styles such as bungalows and townhomes.

While there are homes in the area that date back as early as the 50’s, newer home styles have now entered the area of Montrose. Some commercial buildings in the vicinity have been converted to loft-type buildings, while developers brought new buildings in the area which paved way for the influx of condominiums in Montrose.

Montrose’s status as a hub for artist makes it one of the most vibrant locations in the city. Aside from contributing the colorful bungalows that line the streets of Montrose, most activities in the area are catered towards or initiated by artists. Montrose regularly offers weekend organic markets, art fairs, music shows, and other activities in the area.

Montrose is also the center to many of Houston’s great cafés, music shops, art galleries, restaurants, and other stores. Furthermore, some of Houston’s biggest shopping centers are just a few klicks away from the heart of the neighborhood.

I have lived here for over a decade, and considered myself to be very familiar with Houston. Paige introduced me to facts, neighborhoods and historical information, and I fell in love with the city all over again! She has the knowledge, patience and dedication it takes to educate a novice entering the housing market.

She not only guided and informed, but she took the time to listen and actually understand my taste and specific needs. Buying property is one of the most stressful experiences, but I must say that Paige has helped take the stress level out of the process. I am so grateful to her, and when it comes time to either sell my condo or buy another property, there is no other realtor I would call. Paige Martin is the top Houston realtor on my list!
