Telfair Apartments on Track for Approval

Tuesday night's Sugar Land City Council meeting resulted in the approval of first consideration for the Telfair PD that includes 400 apartment units. At large Council Member, Thomas Abraham made the motion to approve the PD. When no other member would second the motion, Mayor Thompson did so rather than allowing it to die. The previous Planning and Zoning meetings for this item were held on December 14, 2010 and June 23, 2011. Is it coincidence the meetings were scheduled at a time families are most busy with their children? Public speakers made numerous references to the limited communication to Telfair residents on the issue. Mayor Thompson stated at the Tuesday meeting "No matter how much you communicate, people don't get involved until it does affect them". Telfair City Council Rep., Bridget Yeung was Chair of P&Z at that 2010 P&Z meeting. So why didn't she get the word out to Telfair residents??? I have been leading the opposition of apartments in the nearby Sugar Mill PD and the reluctance of City Council members to second this motion shows our efforts are working. There will be a second consideration vote on this issue and I will try to keep Telfair residents informed.
