Preparing to Sell Your Home - Part 1

You are thinking about selling your home.
What should you do to prepare? Is your house ready to be sold?
Part 1
Walk outside and down the driveway to the street. Turn your back and close your eyes. Then, turn around and open them. What do you see? What was the first thing that caught your eye? Yep, curb appeal is very important. Many times a great home is passed up because the potential buyer has driven past and does not even want to see the inside of the home because of what the outside presented.
Starting with the house- wash the windows and repair/replace screens. Check for loose shutters.
Front door- is the storm door in good condition, glass clean? If there is a screen door, does the screen need to be replaced? The door itself should be clean and hardware tight.
Replace the doormat after thoroughly hosing down the ceiling and the porch, removing all cobwebs and dirt.
Clean porch light glass, removing bugs from the area.
Look at the gutters. Are they cleaned out?
Polish, paint, or replace the address numbers.
Paint the mailbox to freshen the look.
Trim any hedges or tree limbs that block the windows.
Does the roof need repair or replacement?
Would a good power washing of the home brighten the look to avoid having to paint?
Now to the yard.
Keep the grass mowed and edge along the sidewalks and driveway.
Power wash the sidewalks and driveway. If you dont have a power washer, remove the stains with a degreaser for a fresh look.
Cut low hanging branches from trees.
Trim hedges.
Weed flower beds. Plant new flowers if needed.
Roll up the hose/place on hanger.
Move toys and bicycles out of the front yard.
It would cost very little, if anything to do most of the items listed above.
Check out part 2 for inside the home.
