Relocating? 5 Tips to Choose the Right Realtor

No matter what scenario you're in, whether it's relocating for work or moving to be closer to family, choosing the right realtor to help you buy a home in another state is crucial.

Here are a few tips to help you find the right realtor.

1) Know the difference: Real estate agent vs. REALTOR®. When someone passes their real estate exam, they cannot participate in any real estate transactions until they join a brokerage. Additionally, a real estate agent is not a REALTOR® until they've completed the required training and have earned the right to use the REALTOR® designation. Realtors adhere to a strict code of ethics.

2) Ask for recommendations. If you have family, friends, or co-workers who live in the area you're moving to, reach out to them. Personal recommendations can be beneficial.

3) Research. Social media has become one of the largest advertising platforms for the majority of realtors. Search social media using hashtags for the city or area you are moving to, like #cypresstx (for Cypress, TX).

4) Interview more than one agent. You don't need to settle on the first agent you speak to, or meet (if you're in town for a period of time). Interview a few realtors to gauge their experience, knowledge of the local market, and how well they listen to what you need.

5) Communication skills. Since you won't be physically present, effective communication will be key. Choose a realtor who communicates promptly and clearly through your preferred methods, whether it's email, phone calls, or video conferencing.

Buying a home remotely can present unique challenges, but with the right realtor, the process can be so much smoother. Take your time to research and choose a realtor who aligns with your specific needs and goals.
