New federal law kicks in this August that requires information to be conveyed to consumers, to "know before you owe". In an effort to get ready, the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an agency implemented by Congress to essentially protect consumers who might not be aware of how things work in the home buying and selling business, has launched a website with a "tool kit". This website is supposed to allow consumers to see what expenses are involved with a home purchase, who charges what, and to encourage consumers to shop around for an affordable home and mortgage. What do you think? Does it work?
