Living in Downtown Houston

Life in Downtown Houston. Several years ago, living and settling in downtown Houston would not have been  considered as a pleasant decision. This was because of reasons such as crimes, not many options for grocery and shopping, parking and much more. However in 2009-2010 investors and developers started to change downtown into a vital city center bringing in a vast spectrum of assets and amenities. “Sales were brisk for 2009.

We saw a lot of interest in living downtown,” says a realtor, who estimates he sold 60 units downtown for the year. Downtown Houston is Houston's civic center, containing Houston City Hall, criminal, and civil courthouses. It is also a major public transportation hub, lying at the center of the light rail system, park and ride system. Downtown Houston is wide-ranging mix of commercial properties. Houston was founded on the banks of Buffalo Bayou which cuts through the upper part of the downtown district. When driving down the streets of downtown Houston, there is a distinct impression that the heart of the city is full of commercial offices and restaurants.

However, downtown Houston has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment for Houstonians during the daytime and the nighttime. For a major city, Houston is pretty darn affordable. A night out on the town is reasonably cheap, so you can head to an outdoor concert or a nice dinner without breaking the bank. Downtown Houston is among the fastest growing urban residential areas in the country. Most people just park their car in the garage and walk almost everywhere, so they almost never deal with traffic according to a resident. While there are over 200,000 employees downtown, there are only about 6,000 residences (up from about 3,000 in 2014). Many people who live downtown also work there. Most downtown’s residential options are historic Houston lofts and downtown Houston condos which offer great “lock and leave” benefits. Building conveniences vary, though most downtown Houston condos offer rooftop terraces, conference rooms, fitness centers, and pools. Recently I took a look at a few properties.
