The Houston Press recently took a look at eight popular Houston neighborhoods with at least 15 single family homes available for lease. They did not include townhouses or duplexes in their consideration which caused several hot areas to be excluded from consideration including Midtown, Upper Kirby and the entire Galleria area.

To get their numbers, the Press used Zillow's map tool and approximated general areas inside Houston's city limits with more than 10 single-family rental properties the week of August 15. They made a range from low to high for rental properties in that general area, also providing an approximate median cost for each rental. It is not scientific, but gives a good idea of the average range of rent for properties in these neighborhoods.

Oak Forest had a price range of $1500 to $3000, which was a common range for several areas but the median cost of the properties available was $1750. This was the lowest median of all eight areas included.

The other seven neighborhoods included in their research were Spring Branch, The Greater Heights, Timbergrove, Montrose, Washington Avenue / Sixth Ward, West University / Rice and the Energy Corridor / Memorial.
