What is tax free weekend and what items does it include?
Tax free weekend is an annual event that began in 1999. It is suppose to give a tax break to families as they shop for back to school items. Back to school expenses have been within the $600-$700 range for the past three years. Nationwide, parents spend a total of $26.7 billion dollars... yes, BILLION! To add more shock and awe... 80% of children will lose pricey supplies, lunch boxes and clothing.
This weekend brings some relief to families; saving shoppers an estimated $82.7 million in state and local taxes.
Items eligible for this tax free weekend:
• Clothes

Each items must be less than $100 to be eligible. You can purchase as many eligible items you desire. So, if you buy two shirts for $60, then you will not pay taxes, even though the total purchase price is $120.
